Q4 dramas end JRM Racing charge at World RX of Belgium

The team went into the Q3 and Q4 races just outside of the top-12 places in the Supercar category and were hoping that ‘British Bomb’ Liam Doran could score enough points to make the final cut.

The Monster Energy Athlete got things off to a solid start by ending his Q3 race in P3, but events in Liam’s Q4 race brought the team’s weekend to an early conclusion.

Heading into turn one, Liam’s MINI RX suffered contact and he was unable to avoid spinning out. He tried to rejoin the race, but it quickly became clear that the damage was terminal.

“We bent the steering arm and also popped the driveshaft. The front wheels were locked out and there was absolutely nothing I could do to get going and rescue the situation,”Liam explained. “It’s a mega frustrating end to the weekend because, when we had a clear run at the track, we were less than half a second off the leading pace.

“The target was definitely to back up our semi final appearances at Portugal and Hockenheim with another one here in Belgium, but we didn’t have much luck on our side this weekend.

“Now our attention turns to my home event at Lydden Hill in a couple of weeks. This disappointment just gives me even more motivation to smash that event and give the British fans a spectacular show.”

While disappointed not to reach the next stage of competition, Team Principal James Rumsey, acknowledged that World RX can be a cruel sport. “Sometimes the luck goes your way and sometimes it doesn’t in rallycross. It definitely hasn’t here in Mettet.

“Suffering steering and driveshaft damage twice during qualifying is pretty extraordinary and is a reminder of how tough World RX is. One weekend you’re on a high like we were in Hockenheim and then seven days later you’re facing some tough times.

“The key for us is to bounce back at Lydden Hill in a couple of weeks. That’s ours and Liam’s home track and we’ll be working flat out to put ourselves in a strong position for that one.”
