Dickies Outlet Supports Glastonbury National Go Skateboarding Day

The Clarks Village Dickies Outlet store recently celebrated National Go Skateboarding Day at the Glastonbury Skate Park. Hosted by The Skateboard Collective's Skatejam, the competition played host to 50 competitors, of all ages, who competed to win tickets to the NASS Action Sports and Music Festival. The entrance fees of all the skaters was donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) who put the money towards a sponsored shave.

Despite the sweltering heat, the skaters competed for skate decks with clothes and accessories all donated by Dickies, NASS, Billabong, Ghetlow Stance, Village Apparel, Amor and Skate Pharmacy. Winner of the day, Bailey Markley, won two tickets to the NASS Festival.

Zal Hazelhurt (right with beard) nominated to have his 3 year old beard cut off in order to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Matt Treece won the honour of cutting off Hazelhurst's beard. The newly clean shaven Hazehurst used the sponsored money to buy a lifejacket for the RNLI and said,

“I was blown away when I learned that the Skatejam was giving all its gate money towards my sponsored beard shave. In total I have raised £334 so far and a massive thank you to everyone who has contributed. I will leave my justgiving.com/zal-Hazlehurst/ page open in case anyone else wants to support the RNLI after the event.”

Manager of the Clarks Village Dickies shop, Tim Carswell, spoke of the skate event,

“The skaters really did us proud; they were really respectful and considerate to everyone. There were no complaints at all. It was really refreshing to see them pitching in with the litter pick and taking the time to personally thank the organisers and supporters. There was a lot of support from local businesses and great help from the local police and, in particular, the District Council.”

National Go Skating Day is a day that celebrates and promotes skating and happens annually on 21st June.
