AOS/BeWiser Sidecar Assen Preview

After a seven week break in the British Formula one sidecar championship, the championship leaders of Portsmouth's driver Ricky Stevens and his Dover based passenger Ryan Charlwood will be back in action over the weekend of 18th September at the 2.8 mile TT circuit in Assen Holland. The AOS/BeWiser team are leading the championship by 72.5 points. Having won seven of the last eight races including a fantastic triple at the last round at Thruxton with two lap records along the way. In April they also won the first round of the World Championship round at Donington Park. With three rounds remaining the team now have the title in their sights. Although there is no talk of this, the way the team have improved into title challenger is down to a number of things.Ricky Stevens and Ryan Charlwood being interviewed by Motors TV at a record breaking last round at Thruxton

Team owners Stuart Wakley and Wayne Stevens brought in a team manager in the form of Paul Knapton a highly experienced sidecar passenger, who ensures the smooth running of the team. The Kawasaki powered 1000 cc machine is the same sidecar which was being used last season by Ricky and Ryan. The machine has been improved with new parts and with Phil Atkin the team's new mechanic he overseas the meticulous preparations of the sidecar. Ricky and Ryan haven't stood still. They have brought in a nutritionist, and train twice a day, so nothing is left to chance. This has lead to them being in top shape for this very demanding sport and in the most competitive championship in the world. Watching them after the races they both look fresh and ready for the next race. The team has had huge interest both on and off the track. After each round  a press release is sent to the riders local newspapers, the BeWiser and sidecar related websites and all the teams' sponsors. This team is unusual as it has a partnership with a British superbike team with riders Chris Walker and Danny Buchan. Both teams use Kawasaki powered machines and have the same livered machines and team clothing. Over the weekend they eat in the same hospitality area mixing with the riders and team members and guests. The success of the sidecar team has rubbed off on the superbike team as Danny Buchan rode to two great podiums at Oulton Park two weeks’ ago.

The whole team is now hoping for another successful weekend in Holland getting them closer to a maiden British Championship.
