AOS Be-Wiser Sidecar Team - Round 2

The Team AOS/ Be Wiser British Sidecar team of driver Ricky Stevens from Portsmouth and his Dover passenger Ryan Charlwood made the trip to Brands Hatch in Kent for the second round of the British Formula one Championship. Not only were they lying in third place in the championship they were also leading the World Championship after last weekend's memorable race at Donington Park were they were wild card entries. The Brands round would be held on the 1.2 mile Indy circuit with two15 lap races over the weekend. With a 20 minute practice session on Friday, qualifying was held on Saturday morning. Completing 18 laps they were pipped to pole position by less than a second by Andy Peach and Charlie Richardson. The top eight were only separated by just over a second. Saturday's afternoon first race was a disappointing affair for all the 21 sidecars. The pair had a bad start but moved into third place when the race was stopped for an accident on lap four. Due to the time constraints for the other race sessions the race was declared and half points were awarded.

Sunday's afternoon race was reduced to twelve laps and it proved to be a thrilling affair. With a better start Ricky and Ryan went into fourth spot but immediately took back third place from Tony Brown and Sam Christie. Chasing down the leaders they took the lead from Andy Peach and Charlie Richardson on lap eight. Pulling away they crossed the line by over three seconds to take their maiden win in the Championship to the delight of their team and family and friends who were in the crowd. Thanking all their sponsors, family and friends for their help, the pair now lead the British Championship by nine points. The next round is at Oulton Park in two weeks time. There is no doubt now that this team must be considered as serious challengers for this year's title.
